The Secret Padel Community Growing Online

Warning: PadelTok is coming for you.

There has been a secret force behind the rise of padel in the US, and it’s not who you would expect. In fact, it’s not a person at all.

It’s an algorithm.

Check your Instagram feed, and you’ll see exactly what I mean.

PadelTok Will Find You

Short-form padel videos began dominating my feed about 8 months ago. It starts with an innocent reel – a wild point where someone hits a flying smash, the ball ricochets off the back glass and out of the court, the opponent’s net player runs out the door, acrobatically spins in mid-air, and hits an unthinkable winner.

The players are stunned, the crowd roars, and the video immediately loops back to the start. You watch the clip three times in a row without even realizing it.

Soon enough, these videos show-up everywhere in your feed: pro points, tutorials, pop-outs, epic fails, and celebrity cameos. Welcome to PadelTok.

Every time you rewatch a padel video, like it, or send it to your friends, the algorithm records your interest. It then pushes more padel content not just to you, but to anyone whose profile shares related viewing interests.

And padel goes viral.

Top Padel Accounts to Follow

While padel is still in its early stages of growth in the US, there is a powerful movement happening online, creating a super passionate community of people who follow the sport.

Here are some of my favorite padel accounts that I follow for epic points and highlights:

Shape the Online Padel Community

If PadelTok has found you, then you should take a look at Padelholm, where we are building an online clubhouse for serious padel players. Padelholm is hand-selecting the first members of the clubhouse, who will have the opportunity to shape the future of the padel community.

You can request an invitation to join the clubhouse on the Padelholm website:

Share this newsletter with a friend whose feed has been infiltrated by padel – or even better – share it with someone who hasn’t yet discovered the joy of watching padel.
